Inspired by our own donation page<\/a>, we\u2019ve decided to release the script \u201cBuy me a coffee\u201d to our audience. This is a \u201cmust have\u201d for any freelancer who wants to monetize their work: content, freebies, tutorials, anything really!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBuy me a coffee\u201d is a donation page installed on your own server, where your website visitors can reward you for your work. This means no commission other than the usual PayPal fees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is a stand alone PHP script, it works regardless of your chosen platform (WordPress, Ghost etc).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is It Worth It?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Since the release of the \u201cBuy Me a Coffee\u201d script, lots of bloggers have downloaded the script (unfortunately, I didn\u2019t track the number of downloads). Overall, the script has been a huge hit and most people have loved the idea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But there is one group of bloggers who isn\u2019t happy with the script. Their complaint: this script is over-hyped and \u201cBuy Me a Coffee\u201d donation links are just fads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is \u201cBuy Me a Coffee\u201d Just a Fad?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

While I do think that the novelty of it will wear off, and the script will lose some of its shine, I don\u2019t think its a fad. And there are 3 very good reasons for that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3 Reasons Why You Should Install The \u201cBuy Me a Coffee\u201d script:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. The Coffee Script Makes Readers Loyal<\/strong>
Dr. Cialdini talks about the power of commitment in his excellent book \u201cInfluence\u201d. He says that its easier to persuade people to commit to a big thing if you first get them to commit to a small but similar thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He tells us about a research that shows how people were persuaded to place a large \u201cDrive Carefully\u201d billboard on their lawns even when that billboard covered the view. When they were approached directly to install the billboard, most people answered No.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So then, the researchers switched gears. The people were approached and asked if they would be willing to put up a small 3*3 sticker that read \u201cBe a Safe Driver\u201d. Almost all the people agreed. Three weeks later, the researchers went back to these same people and now asked them to install the billboard on their lawns. Surprisingly, this time, 76% of them agreed to place the billboard!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another experiment was held during a workshop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
